A CODED LIFE
Curatorial Rationale
A Coded Life explores and subverts our reliance on digital technology, by substituting everyday texts, symbols, and images with QR codes. QR codes are classified as quick response codes, and within the virtual space they quickly take users to the related links. However, by resituating these QR codes as links to the everyday texts we use, the code is no longer a quick response. What would normally take a few seconds to decipher, such as a ‘to-do list’, now becomes a protracted task. Additionally, by substituting text for QR codes, readable texts within our everyday lives become illegible. QR codes, which are illegible for people, then become the means through which information is disseminated.
